Guilty Pleasures

Guilty Pleasures (Monday Motivator)

Guilty Pleasures

What is it about guilty pleasures that make them feel so special?

They’re top of my mind right now because my biggest guilty pleasure by a long way is Strictly Come Dancing!

I never see it at the weekend as my husband loathes it and we’re pretty much always busy anyway. So I find an evening in the week when I can carve out a few hours, settle myself on the sofa and watch it on catch up.

I can’t tell you how much I look forward to it and how naughty it feels. Crazy I know!

For me it’s pure unadulterated entertainment.

Simple, fun, uplifting TV.  The perfect antidote to melodramatic soaps, violent crime series and the relentless barrage of negative news items.

It brings a big smile to my face each and every week.

Another guilty pleasure is cheesy 70s music – and I mean cheesy.

I was only 7 in 1970 (yes I know that makes me old!) but I was massively into music.

So again when I’m in the house on my own – I wouldn’t subject anyone else to it – I play cheesy 70s music like:

KC and the Sunshine Band’s ‘That’s The Way I Like It’

‘We Do It’ by R & J Stone

‘Run To Me’ by the Bee Gees

Well, frankly anything by the Bee Gees!

As I sing at the top of my voice and dance around the kitchen, the songs take me right back to my childhood and put a great big broad grin on my face.

And that’s the joy of guilty pleasures.

They don’t fill you with guilt or make you feel bad afterwards.

They feel naughty enough to make you feel good; uncool enough to make you feel a tiny bit embarrassed and joyful enough to make the world feel like a better place.

So come on then. Be brave and share.

What are your top guilty pleasures in life!?
